Unit Description

This unit offers a study of the evolving state of the law in Australia and other countries on the recognition or adoption of foreign legal regimes and court orders related to traditional family law issues such as marriage, divorce, and child custody, as well as the emerging law in relation to child protection issues (e.g., child abuse, child labour, and human trafficking).

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Identify the significant concepts and themes related to transnational issues in the area of family law.
2.	Locate and effectively use the primary and secondary sources relevant to research on transnational issues in the area of family law.
3.	Identify, describe, evaluate, and manipulate the concepts central to critical thinking about transnational issues in the area of family law.
4.	Develop a nuanced comprehension of the various perspectives on transnational issues in the area of family law and the relative strengths and weaknesses of those perspectives.
5.	Extend the acquired learning and comprehension into the analysis of other issues in law and related disciplines.
6.	Communicate the acquired learning and comprehension in ways that are accessible and persuasive to legal and non-legal audiences.
