Bachelor of Design (BDES)

Course Structure

The first year of this course focuses on the representation of ideas in design while the second year focuses on concepts of space and the built form. The final year consolidates and extends knowledge gained in the first two years of study to complex designs with a regional focus.

A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 240 credit points as detailed below. All units are valued at 10 credit points unless indicated.

Specialist Electives (0 unit)	0	There are no specialist elective unit for this course.
Electives (4 units)	40	Units totalling 40 credit points selected from undergraduate units offered by the University. When selecting electives choose units at a suitable level. The first number in each unit code indicates the year level at which the subject is taught. Undergraduate units are coded at 100 to 300 level, therefore units coded as DES1xx, DES2xx and DES3xx, would be first, second and third year units respectively.

Students who commenced in or after 2013
No more than 20 credit points shall be counted with a grade of "PC" in a Bachelor AQF Level 7 course award and no more than 10 credit points at "PC" may be received at the highest level of the program of learning.

Of the total 240 credit points: (unless specified in the specific course structure above)
* not more than 100 credit points may be taken from 100 level units
* a minimum of 60 credit points must be taken from 300 level units or above

Students who commenced prior to 2013
Of the total 240 credit points:
* not more than 100 credit points may be taken from 100 level units
* a minimum of 40 credit points must be taken from 300 level units
* not more than 30 credit points shall be included with a grade of "PT" or "PC" or "PS"

COURSE CHANGES and TRANSITION arrangements - 2015

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Design prior to 2015 will note some changes to the Course Structure.

Students who have previously completed CAI102 and/or AHT232 may count these towards the new structure as electives.

Students who have completed ARC109 should not complete DES140.

Students who have completed ARC352 should not complete DES352

Students who have completed CAI102, AHT232 and INT352 do not need to complete DES352 (or they will be disadvantaged)

COURSE CHANGES and TRANSITION arrangements - 2011

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Design prior to 2011 will note some changes to the Course Structure.

Reduction to core
ENG304 Engineering Design Project is no longer required as a core unit. Continuing students may count this unit as an elective towards their award.

Redeveloped Units
Students who have completed a unit under the 2010 unit code are not required to complete the new unit.

SPH244 has been replaced by DES262
INT318 has been replaced by DES311
ARC342 has been replaced by DES342

COURSE CHANGES and TRANSITION arrangements - 2009

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Design prior to 2009 will note that the Course Structure above indicates a change to the core units.

ENG404 Management for Professionals is no longer offered and has been replaced by ENG304 Engineering Design Project.
Students who have not completed ENG404 are required to complete ENG304
