This course will be of interest to those students wishing to combine the key attributes of information technology and new media design, particularly those students wishing to seek creative careers in the entertainment industries of games development, digital film, animation, sound design and web based creative applications. Creative arts applications are combined with the latest IT techniques and technologies to equip students to favourably satisfy current industry demands while preparing them to shape future industry developments. The course is also designed to attract mature age students considering a change of career or who are interested in being creative and knowledgeable in the new media and technology industries.

Career opportunities exist in the areas of web design, software development, interactive design, graphic design, digital media, film, television, gaming and music.

Graduates of this combined degree are awarded both the Bachelor of Creative Arts and Industries (New Media Design) and the Bachelor of Information Technology.

Pathways for VET to Higher Education
Guaranteed credit transfer arrangements are available to students commencing a Bachelor degree at Charles Darwin University with completed Certificate IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree qualifications in the same field or discipline at Charles Darwin University. While the core of this program ensures the fundamental concepts of the field are addressed, students also choose one or more specialisations from both Information Technology and Creative Arts. The program stresses both the importance of theory and the application of theory into practice through projects and practical exercises.

Specialisations in Information Technology are available in Information Systems, Web Development, and Networking and Systems. Students will also have the opportunity to complete professional qualifications from Cisco or Microsoft.

Specialisations in Creative Arts are available in New Media Design, Communication Design and Contemporary Music.

The Bachelor of Creative Arts and Industries (Honours) is available for entry to suitable candidates with a Bachelor of Creative Arts and Industries (New Media Design).

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) is available for entry to suitable candidates with a Bachelor of Information Technology.

  • completed both HIT111 and HT151 should follow the original 2008 sequence (students are not required to undertake HIT234 but are recommended to do so as an elective);
  • completed either HIT111 or HIT151 will be required to complete HIT125 (students are not required to undertake HIT234 but are recommended to do so as an elective)
  • have neither completed HIT111 nor HIT151 are required to complete HIT125 and HIT234 (students are recommended to complete HIT162 as an elective).
