This vocationally oriented and student centred course provides students with employment and professional skills needed in a rapidly changing business environment. It allows for flexibility of study and prepares students for careers in a variety of business fields. In addition, communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills are emphasised.

Students have a wide choice of business units from which they can choose electives that will complement their personal interests and career options. Alternatively students may select electives from other disciplines including language studies, anthropology, history, social science, indigenous studies, applied science and engineering.

The flexibility of Charles Darwin University courses permits students with satisfactory progress to move from an enrolment in the Bachelor of Accounting to the Bachelor of Commerce without penalty.

Pathways for VET to Higher Education
Guaranteed credit transfer arrangements are available to students commencing a Bachelor degree at Charles Darwin University with completed Certificate IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree qualifications in the same field or discipline at Charles Darwin University. The course requires completion of common, core and specialist elective units and general electives. Successful completion of the degree will satisfy the entry requirements of the professional accounting bodies in Australia. Elective units allow the student to tailor the degree to their particular career aspirations.



A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 240 credit points as detailed below. All units are valued at 10 credit points unless otherwise indicated.

COURSE CHANGES and TRANSITION arrangements - 2010

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Accounting prior to 2010 will note that the core units indicate some changes.

  • LAW101 Introduction to Law has been replaced by LWZ100A Introduction to Legal Studies;
  • LAW280 Legal Organisations has been replaced by LWA137 Commercial and Corporate Law

Students who have completed LAW101 prior to 2010 should not enrol in LWZ100A. Students who have completed LWA280 should not complete LWA137.

Completion of the degree allows a person to apply for membership of CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants of the UK (ACCA).
