This comprehensive course includes specialisations in business-oriented, information systems to network engineering and systems and the creative areas of web and software development. Students develop an understanding of the underlying principles and applications of IT which will enable them to adapt to future changes in the field as professionals. This course recognises the importance that employers place on people skills and management processes, therefore students will also learn to be problem solvers, decision makers, good communicators and team players.

Career opportunities exist in the areas of information systems and management, web design and development, networking, application development and systems. Study opportunities are also provided to assist students to undertake sought-after industry qualifications, including Cisco and Microsoft certifications.

Pathways for VET to Higher Education
Guaranteed credit transfer arrangements are available to students commencing a Bachelor degree at Charles Darwin University with completed Certificate IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree qualifications in the same field or discipline at Charles Darwin University. While the core of this program ensures the fundamental concepts of the field are addressed, students also choose one or more specialisations from Information Systems, Web Design or Networking and Systems. The program stresses both the importance of theory and the application of theory into practice through projects and practical exercises.

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) is available for entry to suitable candidates with a Bachelor of Information Technology.

 



A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 240 credit points as detailed below. All units are valued at 10 credit points unless another value is indicated.

  • completed both HIT111 and HT151 will be able to follow their current progression;
  • completed either HIT111 or HIT151 will be required to complete HIT125 Application Concepts
  • have neither completed HIT111 nor HIT151 are required to complete HIT162 plus HIT125
Students who have:
  • completed HIT241 are not required to complete PMO201 Project Management;

The Recommended Study Plan provided below is suitable for a student commencing in semester 1 and enrolling in a standard full time load.  Students entering this course with advanced standing, or wishing to vary their study plan due to work, personal, financial or other reasons should use the table as a guide to create an individual study plan.

When designing an individual study plan:

♦    ensure Common Units are completed in the first year of study;

♦    maintain the basic order in which units are to be attempted; and

♦    check the assumed knowledge for each unit as some 200 and 300 level units assume you have completed foundation unit/s in the subject area at a lower level.  200 level units have the unit code which includes a number starting with 200 i.e. PMO201.
