This course is suitable for professional educators and practising teachers who are engaged in the following: change management, policy formation, the delivery of professional development and training programs, tertiary education, informal and non-formal education in community-orientated programs, working with volunteers and youth groups.

Applicants should note that the Master of Education is not a teaching qualification and is not suitable for those seeking a qualification to teach in the Northern Territory.

Successful completion of a recognised four year Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent; or a three year degree and a postgraduate Diploma of Education or equivalent.

The Master of Education program is designed to meet the professional learning needs of educators in school and non school settings, including VET and early childhood education and care services. The course offers opportunities to negotiate a personalised learning pathway suited to the specific needs of the educational or professional context. The course has a research track for students seeking to better understand contemporary educational research or later enrolment in a research degree.

A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 80 credit points as detailed below. All units are valued at 10 credit points unless otherwise indicated.

Changes for 2011

Students enrolled in the Master of Education prior to 2011 will note that the course Structure above provides some additional options for students.

Continuing students are able to follow the pre-2011 or 2011 course requirements.

Changes to 2009

Students enrolled in this course prior to 2009 will note there have been some changes for 2009, the most significant of these being that

EME504 Qualitative Research in Education and Health (last available in 2008)

ETP403. ETP404, ETP463 are no longer on offer as of 2009.

Students who have completed one or more of these units in this course can count them towards the award.

Students have the option to choose EPL401, EPL402, EPL403 OR EPL404 if they intend to complete the Tertiary Teaching and Learning Sequence of Study.
