This masters degree is intended to complement and facilitate the career path of those engineers who wish to make the transition from computations and design to managing people and resources. With a solid comprehension of corporate finance, fundamental marketing, human resources and project management applicable to any work situation, it is the approporiate qualification for career advancement into higher management.

Graduates will develop an applied understanding of the theoretical and technical concepts of Information Technology, with relevant connections to industry and the Australian Computer Society.

Successful completion of a four year Bachelor degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent.

Students with a three year Bachelor degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent and
  • an Honours degree or
    • a relevant postgraduate qualification or
      • at least two years of relevant work experience in the ICT industry
        will also be considered.

The course consists of six information technology management units and two elective units. This course is available externally by distance learning for those who are not able to attend classes on campus. Access to the internet is required for distance learning, with access to high speed broadband highly recommended.



A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 80 credit points as detailed below. All units are valued at 10 credit points unless indicated.

2010 - Transition arrangements
Students who were unsuccessful in completing PRBA007 in S2 2009 will have the choice of completing PRBA001 Accounting Principles in place of the core unit PRBA007 Accounting for Managers in 2010.  From 2011 all students who have not completed a core accounting unit will be required to complete PRBA007 Accounting for Managers. 

2009 - COURSE CHANGES

Students enrolled in this course prior to 2009 will note there have been minor changes to the course for 2009.

Summary of the Changes
As of 2009 the core units have changed
PRBA001 Accounting Principles. Students who, prior to 2009, have completed PRBA001 are not required to complete PRBA007.

PRIT003 Advanced IT Project Management has been replaced by ENG502 Project Management: Tools and Techniques.
Continuing Students are not required to complete ENG502 if they have received a passing grade or Advanced Standing in PRIT003

PRIT007 Advanced E-Business Security and Risk Management has been replaced by ENG542 Risk and Reliability Management.
Continuing Students are not required to complete ENG542 if they have received a passing grade or Advanced Standing in PRIT007

PRIT013 Advanced Business Analysis and Re-engineering, as of 2009 is a core unit.
Continuing Students who have completed PRIT013 as a Specialist Elective, can count that unit as a core as of 2009

ENG503 Entrepreneurship for Professionals, as of 2009 is a core unit.
Continuing Students who have completed ENG503 as a Specialist Elective, can count that unit as a core as of 2009

As of 2009 the following Specialist units are no longer on offer:
PRIT001 Advanced Programming Concepts
PRIT003 Advanced IT Project Management and has been replaced by ENG502. Students who, prior to 2009, have completed PRIT003 are not required to complete ENG502.
PRIT005 Advanced Database Concepts
PRIT007 Advanced E-Business Security and Risk Management (replaced by ENG542). Students who, prior to 2009, have completed PRIT007 are not required to complete ENG542.
PRIT008 Advanced Interaction Design
Students who have completed any of these units prior to 2008 may count them as Elective Units in the course

The following unit titles have been changed:
