Police Check: each State and Territory in Australia has requirements for students undertaking courses involving clinical placements to provide documented evidence of relevant health and security checks, eg completed immunisation requirements, criminal record checks and/or working with children clearances and/or fitness to practice requirements.

Students must have met the above requirements that are mandatory in their state or territory before they can undertake those units that include clinical placements. Students who have not met these mandatory requirements and not been cleared by the clinical sector to undertake clinical experience will not be able to undertake clinical practice experience and will not therefore be able to complete the requirements of the course.

Admission to Charles Darwin University higher education coursework programs are received and processed by the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC). Detailed entry and special entry criteria for this course is published in the SATAC University Guide. Check out the following information about how to apply for undergraduate courses or how to apply for postgraduate courses.

Applicants must hold current registration as a Registered Nurse with an Australian nursing and midwifery regulatory authority. All applicants (except those applying for the credit transfer stream) must have employment in the clinical specialty for which they are applying.

Additional Admission Requirements

All intending applicants must contact the Graduate School for Health Practice on (08) 8946 7179.

For information about credit transfer available to students with complete or incomplete study at this or other Institutions refer to Pathways for Higher Education to Higher Education

This course consists of core units, speciality sequences, and project units. In addition to the core evidence-based practice and culture in practice units, students can choose up to two specific sequences of study: clinical nursing, clinical education and/or clinical management. The final project is individually negotiated to allow students to explore in depth an area of professional interest.

Both the content and the assessment strategies used in the program ensure that students are able to build on their clinical experience and professional practice. The emphasis of the program is clinical practice: practice development and clinical leadership. Within each of the sequences students will have the opportunity to enhance their own performance in the work place and initiate projects aimed at practice improvement. Graduates from this program will be recognised as leaders in their chosen field.

Students undertaking a clinical nursing sequence not employed at least 0.5 FTE in the relevant specialty area are required to arrange their own clinical placement in consultation with the University. It is essential that the chosen clinical venue can support a student both in fulfilling the clinical requirements of the course and in providing appropriate clinical supervision and support. A residential school may be required for some units with the remainder of the teaching material using on-line delivery.

Students who have not met the clinical practice requirements will not be able to complete the requirements of this course.
