This masters degree is intended to complement and facilitate the career path of those engineers who wish to make the transition from computations and design to managing people and resources. With a solid comprehension of corporate finance, fundamental marketing, human resources and project management applicable to any working situation, it is the appropriate qualification for career advancement into higher management.

The course consists of six units of engineering management units and two units of electives. This course is available externally by distance learning for those who are not able to attend classes on campus. Access to the internet is required for distance learning, with access to high speed broadband highly recommended.



A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 80 credit points as detailed below. All units are valued at 10 credit points unless indicated.

Points to consider when selecting Elective Units
Electives should always be selected in consultation with the course coordinator, however, students should consider the following:

  • If you are thinking about transferring from the single Master of Engineering Management degree program to one of the double degree programs Master of Engineering Management/Master of Business Administration; Master of Engineering Management/Master of Engineering, electives should be selected in line with the double degree program.

2010 - Transition arrangements
Students who were unsuccessful in completing PRBA007 in S2 2009 will have the choice of completing PRBA001 Accounting Principles in place of the core unit PRBA007 Accounting for Managers in 2010.  From 2011 all students who have not completed a core accounting unit will be required to complete PRBA007 Accounting for Managers. 

2009 - COURSE CHANGES and Transition arrangements
Students enrolled in this course prior to 2009 will note there have been minor changes to the course requirements for 2009.

Summary of the Changes - Core Units
PRBA001 Accounting Principles has been replaced by PRBA007 Accounting for Managers from 2009. Students who have completed PRBA001 prior to 2009 do not need to complete PRBA007.
PRBM009 International Business has been replaced by PRBE001 Economics for Managers from 2009
