This course is designed for students who wish to study engineering at Diploma level. It provides basic technical skills with which graduates can commence entry level work in engineering related areas or go on to further their studies in engineering.

The Diploma of Engineering provides a pathway into the Advanced Diploma of Engineering or the Bachelor of Engineering with full credit being given for the successful completion of this Diploma.

A strong grounding in mathematics and sciences is provided along with a general engineering background. This course is available externally by distance learning for those who are not able to attend classes on campus. Access to the internet is required for distance learning, with access to high speed broadband highly recommended.



A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 80 credit points as detailed below. All units are valued at 10 credit points unless indicated.

Of the total 80 credit points:
· not more than 10 credit points shall be included with a grade of "PC".


COURSE CHANGES and TRANSITION arrangements - 2009 and 2010

  • Students who have completed SPH142 in the 2009 program will be exempted from SPH141 in the 2010 program.
  • Students who have completed SMA101 in the 2009 program will be exempted from SMA100 in the 2010 program.
  • Students who have completed SMA102 in the 2009 program will be exempted from one elective in the 2010 program

As of 2010 CUC106 and CUC107 will be the two Common Units students are required to complete in the Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Bachelor of Engineering, including combined Bachelor of Engineering courses.
