Students entering the BTL (Inservice) will already possess a three year teaching qualification. However, the Teacher Registration Board in the Northern Territory, in common with Boards in other jurisdictions requires teachers to have completed a four year program.
A teacher who has taught continuously for seven years or more may be granted up to 20 credit points or more dependant upon recognised professional development. A new specialisation in Indigenous Education is being prepared in collaboration with the Batchelor Institute of Tertiary Education (BITE).A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 80 credit points (cp) as detailed below. All units are valued at 10 credit points unless indicated.
COURSE CHANGES and TRANSITION arrangementsStudents enrolled in this course prior to 2008, 2009 and 2010 will note there have been some changes.2009 Changes:The most significant of these being the removal of ETL110 Teaching and Learning 1 as a required core unit. Students enrolled prior to 2008 and who have already completed the unit will retain this as an elective.Other changes include:ETL310 Teaching and Learning 5 replaced by EDB306 EAL for Inclusion as a specialist elective in the Special Education sequence. EDB306 is no longer offered as of 2009.EME532 Middle School Issues (final offering in 2007) ETL339 E-Learning and Futures (unit title change)ETP403, ETP404, ETP463 are no longer on offer as of 2009.Students have the option to choose EPL401, EPL402, EPL403 or EPL404EAL422 is no longer on offer as of 2009
2010 Changes:The course requirements have been changed and no longer include elective unit choices.
