This course offers students the greatest variety of creative pathways from the specialisations in the suite of courses in the creative industries being offered at Charles Darwin University in New Media Design, Fine Arts, Communications and Music. There are no prerequisites for this course.

The Bachelor of Creative Arts and Industries allows students to tap their creative potential by providing study options around the specialisations from the suite of degrees described above; and encourages and assists them in their construction of stimulating careers in the creative sector. Opportunities to develop and apply creative industries' skills and knowledge are facilitated by an emphasis on seeking solutions for a range of real world projects and challenges.

Pathways for VET to Higher Education
Guaranteed credit transfer arrangements are available to students commencing a Bachelor degree at Charles Darwin University with completed Certificate IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree qualifications in the same field or discipline at Charles Darwin University. Students who hold completed qualifications should refer to the additional information provided by using one of the following links:

The course consists of common units, and core units, which are common across the suite of creative arts and industries studies in the School. Students then select a study pathway from the specialisation options in creative arts and industries, and electives from within any area of study within the University.

The flexible course structure allows students to choose suites of study that accommodate pathways into a variety of possible career choices.

The Bachelor of Creative Arts and Industries (Honours) is available for entry to suitable candidates with a Bachelor of Creative Arts and Industries.

 



A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 240 credit points as detailed below. All units are valued at 10 credit points unless otherwise indicated.

Summary of the Changes for the Web Development and Design Specialisation
Core Units
Students who have:
  • completed both HIT111 and HT151 should follow the original 2008 sequence (students are not required to undertake HIT234 but are recommended to do so as an elective);
  • completed either HIT111 or HIT151 will be required to complete HIT125 (students are not required to undertake HIT234 but are recommended to do so as an elective);
  • have neither completed HIT111 nor HIT151 are required to complete HIT125 and HIT234 (students are recommended to complete HIT162 as an elective)
NMD202 is no longer available as of 2009 and has been replaced by HIT225 and HIT325
Students who have:
  • completed NMD202 two times in 2008 are not required to undertake HIT225 and HIT325
  • completed NMD202 once in 2008 are required to complete HIT325
  • not completed NMD202 at all, must complete HIT225 and HIT325

Graduates can find employment in the growing creative sector and work in a combination of media, including communication, public relations, marketing, design, gaming, film, music production, performance or teaching, administration, studio artist in both the public and private sector.

Commonwealth Supported places are available in this course to students who meet one of the following residency requirements: (a) Australian Citizenship; (b) a New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident visa holder who will be resident within Australia for the duration of the unit.
