Unit Description

This unit engages students in developing diverse design solutions for housing a growing population, addressing key issues such as affordability, demographic shifts, cultural and family diversity, and community expectations. Through research, students explore effective strategies used in urban and suburban environments. They develop detailed design proposals that focus on the relationship between community, public, and private spaces. Additionally, students examine the impact of architecture on both users and the broader community, communicating their ideas through written, verbal, and visual methods.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Design a housing proposition that considers contemporary theory, trends, housing and neighbourhood typologies.
2.	Create an architectural proposition underpinned by an iterative and research driven design process.
3.	Critically evaluate and integrate contemporary theoretical, historical, design, functional, tectonic, environmental, social and behavioural knowledge to address complex design briefs.
4.	Communicate design strategies, processes and resolution using relevant media, tools and techniques to exhibition quality.
5.	Reflect, revise and refine own architectural design propositions in response to expert and peer critique.
