Unit Description

This unit focuses on the development of students' architectural design methodologies and processes for the resolution of medium scale multi-function buildings in an urban setting through the exploration of space and place, materiality, structure, construction and environmental contexts. Students undertake architectural projects in a process of research, analysis, conceptual design and design resolution communicated using a range of media including two and three dimensional computer modelling programs. Typical projects for this studio include: multi-storey mixed use, commercial, residential, recreational, civic and retail spaces.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Design medium scale multi-function buildings using appropriate methodologies and processes.
2.	Evaluate and apply architectural theory, concepts and principles in the resolution of architectural design projects.
3.	Select and apply appropriate materials and construction techniques and environmental principles for medium scale multi-function buildings.
4.	Apply communication techniques effectively for the presentation of architectural design solutions.
5.	Examine, reflect, revise and refine projects in response to feedback.
