| In this unit students will undertake a 10-day clinical placement where they will begin to develop real-world clinical skills. This will involve gaining independence in non-complex cases and participating in a wider caseload that may include paediatric assessment, objective testing, and hearing devices. Students will be supervised by an accredited audiologist and will have the opportunity to work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, and private practices. Students will also learn about industrial audiology and hearing screening including an understanding of occupational health and safety relevant standards and legislation. Students will learn how to implement and justify hearing screening programs for both adult and pediatric populations in a variety of contexts. Students will be able to make appropriate recommendations for the prevention of noise-induced hearing loss. Although every effort is made to locate a placement close to the student's place of residence, students should plan for the possibility of travel across the Northern Territory and interstate. This unit includes a clinical exam which is assessed face-to-face at the Casuarina Campus, Darwin. This exam is scheduled during the same week as intensives for AUD503, AUD505, and AUD511. Students will be expected to pay for their placement related expenses such as transport and accommodation. |
