Unit Description

Professional practice unit 2 (rural and remote) involves an integrated placement of community and public health nutrition, food systems and services, research and some clinical practice. This integrated placement mirrors the generalist dietetic skills required in rural and remote practice. Students will participate in ten weeks of full-time, supervised work placement in a rural or remote health or community government or nongovernment organisation supervised by an Accredited Practising Dietitian.

Students will require confirmation from the Course Coordinator of their DET602 placement, prior to unit enrolment.

1.	Demonstrate professional practice at a standard appropriate for entry into the dietetics profession in a range of rural, remote and /or international health and community contexts.
2.	Positively influences the nutrition of individuals, groups and /or populations living in rural and remote Australian and /or international locations to achieve health outcomes.
3.	Demonstrate critical thinking and evidenced based practice to inform dietetics practice including research and quality improvement projects.
4.	Collaborate with clients and stakeholders effectively and appropriately to improve nutrition and health outcomes.
