Unit Description

In this unit, preservice teachers will explore pedagogical approaches to engage children in Arts education to foster holistic development, including brain development. Preservice teachers will examine neuroscientific research on the impact of quality arts education on the developing brain and its implications for the arts in early childhood education. The unit also addresses the role of arts education in facilitating children's communication and expression. Preservice teachers will draw upon the Early Years Learning Framework, The Australian Curriculum, pedagogical practices and neuroscientific research to design arts learning opportunities for students in the early years.

Important Information

Online enrolment is not available for the Intensive 3 offering of this unit. To enrol, students will need to first consult with the unit coordinator.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Design arts-based learning to nurture holistic development, including brain development.
2.	Demonstrate various pedagogical approaches that support the teaching of the arts curriculum.
3.	Design learning environments that engage children to express meaning using different arts forms.
4.	Demonstrate the use of visual arts, media arts, music, drama, and movement to enhance children's modes of communication.
5.	Apply a range of resources, including research evidence, that enable children to express meaning through different arts forms.
