Unit Description

This unit provides an opportunity for preservice teachers to develop an increased understanding of contemporary digital literacy in school education. This unit takes a hands-on approach to developing and utilising contemporary classroom technologies and knowledge in teaching, as well as student learning activities. The unit covers fundamental concepts relating to the theories of integrating digital technologies with pedagogy and provides scaffolding for preservice teachers to develop their understanding of the creative application of digital technologies in education. The unit takes an experiential and problem-solving approach, making use of digital technologies in diverse ways with emphasis on strategies to support the safe, responsible, and ethical use of digital technologies.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Identify and use appropriate ICT tools and systems for teaching and learning, responsibly, safely and ethically.
2.	Plan and implement a strategy as a teacher for the use of ICT to improve student learning based on existing and emerging technology and pedagogy.
3.	Work collaboratively with others using ICT social tools in the identification of creative ways in which ICT can be used for student learning.
4.	Demonstrate creative problem-solving approaches using ICT, which are culturally appropriate and sensitive (including Indigenous culture) for their own and for student learning.
