| This unit introduces students to Australian society through the critical exploration of histories, institutions and cultures. Through a series of inquiry-based learning activities students will explore the key events, values and issues that have shaped Australia. Students will learn about the nation's key systems and institutions, dominant cultural practices and the values/ideas that shape these. Through the lens of contemporary issues students will explore the way in which power, privilege, inequality and cultural identity shapes Australia, and the experiences of those who live here. This unit is also designed to develop students' preparedness for tertiary education with particular attention paid to developing students' skills and confidence in relation to critical thinking, research and tutorial discussions. |
