Unit Description

This unit introduces students to the advanced infrastructure of modern computer networks and associated client-server technologies. It also prepares students to work with active directory domain services. This unit helps students to determine and solve current computer network issues within organisations. This unit also incorporates technical knowledge for planning, deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting Active Directory infrastructure in Windows Server environment. This unit covers specific technologies and methodologies that will help provide students with knowledge and skills required by industry.

This is the second of two units that prepare students to undertake the necessary examinations to qualify for an IT Professional Certification. To achieve an IT Professional Certification, students will have to pass an examination external to CDU. Students must have access to a reliable high-speed broadband connection.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Configure and manage network services including Network Virtualisation, TCP/IP addressing, IP routing, and IPsec.
2.	Develop expertise in deploying Windows Servers and adding roles to enhance network services.
3.	Deploy remote access solutions such as VPN, Direct Access, and Remote Desktop Services by configuring their connections.
4.	Evaluate advanced security features including Network Access Protection (NAP), Network Policy Server (NPS), and Windows Firewall with Advanced Security.
5.	Securely manage network file sharing and access permissions.
6.	Configure Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) and manage user accounts, groups, and group policies.
7.	Monitor and troubleshoot network connectivity using Performance Monitor, Event Viewer, and Network Monitor.
