This unit provides students with an understanding of epidemiology and its application in health locally and globally. Key concepts which form the foundations of epidemiology are investigated across communicable disease, injury prevention and chronic and complex conditions. Basics of epidemiology includes concepts associated with disease causation, patterns of disease and review of biostatistical methods and their reasons for use. Students will explore relationships between epidemiology, the environment and health policy, developing skills to appraise epidemiological studies.
