Unit Description

This unit examines typical residential scale construction with emphasis placed on building materials, structure, construction practices and environmental impact. Typical construction systems will be compared and evaluated including typical masonry, framing systems and composite systems for residential scale buildings applying Australian codes and standards. Students will learn to apply basic construction terminology and knowledge to develop construction details.

2.	Identify typical building terminology used in residential scale construction.
3.	Apply materials and construction knowledge to create typical construction details.
