Unit Description

This unit explores the social inequalities which are brought about by increasing interconnectedness of countries and cultures. It emphasises processes of cultural globalisation; notably, identity formation and community building. The unit focuses on Australia's place in a globalised world, especially the Asian region.

1.	Analyse social issues using approaches employed in sociology.
2.	Analyse the strengths and weaknesses of various global sociological perspectives.
3.	Apply the main sociological theories and concepts to an understanding of social issues.
4.	Discuss and debate current social issues.
5.	Critically examine the relationship between local and global social contexts.
6.	Evaluate readings in terms of their relevance to an understanding of global social issues.
7.	Research information using a variety of sociological methods and tools.
