This unit introduces students to the study of China's global position in relationship with the world, and how it has influenced the course of western politics and history. The unit examines China's international relations with the world, historically and in contemporary society, as a highly strategic country in the Asia-Pacific region. It traces how international links and ideas have, over time, influenced China. The unit evaluates key social and political developments in China today, such as in regional and international cooperation and conflict resolution. Discussion of different scholarly interpretations of major events and themes will form the main part of the unit. Students will evaluate contemporary China and its place in the world today.
