Language centres are often the hub of the complex work of consultation, negotiation and management related to language maintenance and revitalisation in an Indigenous community. This unit provides an opportunity to explore the broad parameters within which language centres exist. Students examine the diversity in function and extent to which centres and stakeholders are involved in processes of maintaining and revitalizing languages. They are exposed to and examine the theoretical and practical knowledge to successfully navigate the process of language centre management and will acquire and devise strategies and skills for resourcing community language work in this context. Student will be expected to have completed units in relevant language maintenance and linguistics prior to enrolment in this unit so that knowledge gained can be applied in a management setting.
