SBI150 - CELLULAR BIOLOGY
SBI161 - Anatomy and Physiology 1
This unit introduces the foundations of haematology in both health and disease, covering blood cell morphology and function across various stages of development. Students explore the physiology of blood cells, covering their role in haemostasis and changes that occur in disease states. They are also introduced to common blood cell disorders, such as anaemias and benign white cell disorders. Students will develop laboratory skills in preparing and examining peripheral blood films, conducting cell counts, and analysing and interpreting test results for diagnosing haematological disorders. Furthermore, they will gain an awareness of quality assurance process, specimen collection requirements, and the role of laboratory analysers in the diagnostic laboratory.
