| This unit covers the development and function of the human immune system and explores the complexities of immunopathology. Students will be introduced to immunological processes in health and disease, including the structure, function and regulation of innate and adaptive immune responses, antigens and antigen presentation, antibodies and other soluble mediators. Studies will then extend to immune disorders, including hypersensitivity reactions, autoimmune disorders, immunodeficiencies, transplantation and tumour immunology. Students will develop basic skills in immunological techniques applicable in both diagnostic and research laboratories.
