| Throughout this unit students will develop both a theoretical and technical understanding of pathogenic bacteria with respect to aetiology, pathogenesis, laboratory diagnosis, and antimicrobial therapy. Students will utilise methods to characterise bacteria of medical importance and develop safe practices in their isolation and identification through the use of variety of techniques including selective and differential media, staining techniques, and biochemical tests. There will be an emphasis on the practical components, using authentic activities to develop the required skills to work within a diagnostic microbiology laboratory. |
