Unit Description

This unit is a capstone unit where students are required to show their ability to function as a novice nurse practitioner while under supervision by their clinical support team. Students are expected to exhibit autonomy and expert judgement along with professional accountability and responsibility during their practice. An ability to adapt to familiar as well as complex, unstable and unfamiliar health situations will be evident. Students will demonstrate practice in line with relevant professional standards, policies and legislation while critically evaluating research findings and integrating these into their expanded practice role. This unit requires 130 hours of supernumerary integrated professional practice.

Important Information

This unit is only available to students enrolled in the SNNP01/SNNP02 Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner).

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Utilise a systematic approach to collect information for diagnostic reasoning when conducting a comprehensive health assessment in complex and unstable conditions
2.	Demonstrate expert judgement and autonomy when planning care in collaboration with the person at the centre of the care and others as needed.
3.	Utilise a safe process for prescribing by considering the principles of Quality Use of Medicine along with pharmacological knowledge when deciding non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatment options.
4.	Apply an autonomous, accountable and expanded practice that adheres to legislation and professional regulation that governs the role of the Nurse Practitioner.
5.	Construct processes for audit and evaluation of outcomes from own practice that aim for improvement.
6.	Educate and supervise colleagues, students and other stakeholders.
