Have you awakened your inner mathematician? Are you ready to embark on a journey of mathematical discovery?
This unit is designed to build your confidence and core mathematical skills, providing the foundation you need for further study in fields such as engineering, information technology (IT), and applied science. You will start by reviewing basic algebra, then progress through topics including polynomials, trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonometry and trigonometric functions, an introduction to vectors with basic operations, and a brief introduction to differential calculus.
You will engage with online course materials that include interactive activities, supported by video explanations, lectures, and tutorials. To optimise your learning potential, you will receive feedback during tutorials, as well as through online quizzes and handwritten assignments. This unit is structured to require approximately 20 hours of study per week when studied over the 6-week intensive, or 12 hours per week when studied over the 10-week Summer Semester.
Throughout the unit, you will refine your problem-solving strategies within career-specific contexts. The diverse learning experiences provided will help you develop skills in interpreting and identifying key information in mathematical problems, selecting appropriate strategies to solve them, and analysing and communicating solutions effectively. Most importantly, this unit will support you in becoming an independent learner of mathematics in readiness for your formal studies.
