This unit explores key themes in historical and contemporary personality theories which underline psychology as a discipline; psychodynamic, psychosocial, biological, trait, humanistic, and social cognitive approaches. Students are introduced to theories for understanding personality and assessment of personality based on available empirical evidence. There is a focus on the application of personality theories in research, assessment, clinical, social and general wellbeing settings, and appreciation that personality is a dynamic, changing entity, anchored in cultural and social contexts.
