Unit Description

In this unit, students explore three important applied areas of psychology; health, well-being and community psychology. Important concepts and principles are presented linking theories of wellbeing and health psychology to understanding influences on health and illness and health promotion. Psychological knowledge and skills necessary for empowering communities such as community focused psycho-social research and evaluation, assessingpsycho-social strength and needs of communities, developing group-based interventions and strategies to enhance engagement are also presented.

1.	Synthesise the major principles, theories, and research of health and community psychology within the science practitioner model.
2.	Apply psychological theory and research to designing community, health, and psychological wellbeing interventions and programs.
3.	Design research or evaluation tools for evidence-based assessment and evaluation of health, community, psychological wellbeing interventions and programs.
4.	Identify, apply, and integrate ethical and cultural considerations into program design and assessment.
