Unit Description

This unit will allow students to develop foundational knowledge regarding the basic concepts that underpin the study of cell biology at the cellular and molecular level. Students will discuss the factors that regulate cellular function, individually and collectively to create complex multicellular structures, their biochemical and physiological properties, and how they have evolved to create biological diversity, including their genetic basis of inheritance.

1.	Describe the structure and function of cells and their intracellular organelles.
2.	Explain the role of the essential molecules involved in cellular functions.
3.	Discuss the basic metabolic processes in a cell and how they are regulated.
4.	Discuss the nature and flow of genetic information and how genes and genomes evolve.
5.	Communicate biological concepts to a diverse community.
6.	Describe basic principles of inheritance and how cells reproduce.
