Unit Description

There have been major advances in areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in modern times. This unit provides an introduction to aspects of Science and Technology within the context of current environmental issues. The unit consists of modules designed for STEM and non-STEM students, and assumes limited knowledge of Science and Mathematics. Modules examine climate change and the transition to renewables, Artificial Intelligence, and biodiversity. A STEM practices approach is employed using real-world scenarios to enhance skills and knowledge of Science, modern technology and its role in society.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Demonstrate knowledge of factors that influence climate change and the adoption of renewable energy and Artificial Intelligence, and reasons for ongoing biodiversity declines.
2.	Evaluate the accuracy of precedents and predictions based on scientific data.
3.	Effectively communicate scientific information to diverse audiences.
4.	Apply practical knowledge of technology to address problem solving in real-world contexts.
