Unit Description

This unit provides an introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and examines its history, principles and terminologies, current trends and tools, and its actual and potential impacts. Students will be introduced to the basic principles of machine learning, language models and generative AI, and will investigate specialised applications of AI. This unit has a hands-on component, designed for both STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and non-STEM students to develop AI tools using modern no-code environments. Students will use AI tools to solve real-world problems in data analysis and text/image classification, and for generating text, images, audio and video. Students will also be introduced to the concept of Ethical AI to reflect on the influence of the deployment of AI on society.

1.	Apply knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for practical problem-solving.
2.	Explain the core concepts of Artificial Intelligence (AI), including its goals and limitations.
3.	Evaluate the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in various contexts, and ethical considerations associated with the adoption of AI.
4.	Design and develop Artificial Intelligence (AI) projects for diverse tasks, applying techniques for text, image, audio, and video generation.
