Unit Description

Students are required to complete up to 96 hours of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) on an emergency ambulance with registered Paramedics in an Australian state-based service. This unit will build on the acquired knowledge and clinical skills gained in previous units and maps to the professional capabilities of Paramedics laid out by the Paramedic Board of Australia (PBA). This unit provides the first of three placements in a WIL setting and provides students with the opportunity to apply and develop skills in a 'real-life' setting under the supervision of Registered Paramedics.

Important Information

This unit is only available to students enrolled in the WPAR01 Bachelor of Paramedicine.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Working as part of a team, to reach common goals, as an assistant and observer.
2.	Apply basic patient assessment skills, knowledge of medication and clinical reasoning to presentation of clinical problems of the patient.
3.	Apply professional and interpersonal communication skills whilst providing care to patients in a variety of contexts and situations.
4.	Reflect on your experience and the challenges faced on a professional and personal level and relate these to AHPRA¿s professional capabilities for registered paramedics.
5.	Recognise and apply clinically safe, competent, professional paramedic practice in line with AHPRA professional capabilities for Paramedics during the practicum.
