| This unit will equip students with an understanding of medically important viral, fungal and parasitic infections in the human body. They will explore the characteristics, pathogenesis, transmission, clinical signs, laboratory detection, treatment prevention, and control of these infections. Additionally, students will gain insight into the host-parasite relationship, including vector-borne, zoonotic diseases, and those affecting immunocompromised individuals. They will employ laboratory techniques to isolate and identify viruses, fungi, and parasites, through the evaluation of clinical, biochemical, molecular, serological, and histological data. Moreover, students will discuss emerging technologies and diseases such as pandemics. |
