Is it important to you to share your passion for science and technology? In a world littered with fake news, how can you make a difference and inspire young people and communities towards loving and trusting science?

In this unit, you will learn to adapt your communication styles whilst engaging with diverse groups of stakeholders. This unit includes a one-week intensive, which can be taken online or as field trip, joining the CDU Radicle STEM Engagement Roadshow.

You will learn by assisting with logistics preparation (for travel, personal health, safety planning, minor equipment, etc.); research preparation (understanding context, project/workshop development, ethics considerations and practices); learning and applying practical skills; working with others; practicing duty of care for self and others, and physical safety and well-being. Additional opportunities include reflection on inter-cultural skills and communication in an unfamiliar context.

The one week field trip (Roadshow) is optional. Students who do not undertake the field trip will given the option to undertake an one week online intensive. The one week intensive (online or in the field) is mandatory for this unit.

Assessment Items are based on the full cycle of a science engagement project, from applying for a grant to fund a STEM engagement project, planning, and executing the project and reporting outcomes to sponsors.

Online enrolment is not available for this unit due to the field trip requirements. Students are required to check enrolment availability with the lecturer prior to applications. To enrol, complete the Special Enrolment form accessed via the eForms tile through CDU Portal.

Students undertaking the field intensive are required to make their own travel arrangements to and from Darwin before and after the field intensive. Please check with the unit coordinator for exact dates and start and end locations.
