Unit Description

Students will attend a 150-hour placement, encompassing paediatric and/or adult clinic settings, to consolidate their clinical knowledge and skills and caseload management in the areas of communication and swallowing disorders. On completion of this unit, students are expected to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours which constitute an overall near-Entry level of competency, as described in The Competency Assessment in Speech Pathology (COMPASS®). Students will be expected to pay for their placement related expenses such as transport and accommodation.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Meet a near-Entry level of competency as described in the Competency Assessment in Speech Pathology (COMPASS®).
2.	Critically reflect on own knowledge, skills and attributes and source opportunities to further skill development and clinical competency.
3.	Integrate information from a range of sources to plan and manage evidence-based and person-centred speech pathology services.
4.	Implement communication strategies and interpersonal skills required to establish professional relationships with clients, colleagues and the wider community.
5.	Evaluate the role of multidisciplinary teams and the client/carers in the holistic management of clients.
