In this unit, students examine the relationship between food, nutrition, physical activity and health and wellbeing. The roles and functions of key macronutrients, micronutrients and the consequences of excess or deficiencies will be explored within the context digestion, absorption and metabolism of food and students will gain an understanding of the principles of energy balance and body composition in relation to food intake and physical activity requirements. The socio-cultural role of food choices and behaviours will also be considered in relation to influences on health and performance.
