| This unit provides students the opportunity to explore the concept of violence and its impacts on children, families and communities. Sociological theories are used to explore and critique dominant norms, contextual and intersecting factors such as gender, historical trauma experienced by First Nations Peoples, culture and power that shape societal responses to, and understandings of , violence including intimate partner violence, child abuse and neglect, and elder abuse. Students will reflect on own personal strategies to manage self appropriately in potentially conflictual and heightened contexts when addressing family violence. |
