This unit examines the Australian legal system, the process for developing and amending legislation and court processes. Students will be introduced to the legal contexts of human service practice and strategies for influencing legislation. Importantly students will learn about the legislative context of their professional practice and the legal parameters of their expertise in supporting vulnerable client populations. Students will develop knowledge and skills for the application of legislation to practice within statutory roles such as child protection. The impact of Australian law in relation to First Nations Peoples and the implications for practice will be examined.
