In this unit students will develop a foundation in their theoretical understanding of second language teaching methodologies and apply this understanding to classroom practice. The objectives of this unit are to evaluate second language teaching methodologies in connection with specific teaching contexts, which includes contexts attached to general second language development, specific second language skill development (e.g. reading, writing, speaking, listening) and second language development for specific purposes (e.g. English for academic purposes). This unit will allow learners to explore teaching and learning of English as a second or foreign language in different parts of the world. Throughout this unit, students will explore pedagogical decisions that can be made in the planning and delivery of the second language classroom and their applications.
