Unit Description

This unit introduces students to concepts, principles and communication techniques used in architectural design. Through the development of their own design methodologies and processes students will resolve small to medium scale projects which focus on site, context, sensory perception and climate in the generation and exploration of ideas translated into architectural form using 2D and 3D communication techniques. Typical projects for this studio include: residential/family living spaces, urban and other landscape explorations and public use spaces. A structured communications program provides students with a foundation in architectural drawing techniques to support their design projects.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Design small to medium scale architectural projects using appropriate methodologies and processes.
2.	Apply design theory, concepts and principles in the resolution of architectural design projects that focus on site, context, sensory perception and design for climate principles.
3.	Select and apply appropriate materials and construction techniques and environmental principles for small to medium scale buildings.
4.	Apply communication techniques effectively for the presentation of architectural design solutions.
5.	Examine, revise and refine projects in response to feedback.
