Unit Description

This unit focuses on the development of students' architectural design methodologies and processes for the resolution of medium scale complex buildings through the exploration of architectural theory, space and place, materiality, structure, construction and environmental contexts. Students undertake architectural projects in a process of research, analysis, conceptual design and design resolution communicated using a range of media including two and three dimensional computer modelling programs. Typical projects for this studio include: collaborative research spaces, museums/galleries, community use spaces and mixed residential spaces.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Design medium scale complex buildings using appropriate methodologies and processes.
2.	Evaluate and apply architectural theory, concepts and principles in the resolution of architectural design projects.
3.	Select and apply appropriate materials and construction techniques and environmental principles for medium scale complex buildings.
4.	Apply communication techniques effectively for the presentation of architectural design solutions.
5.	Reflect, revise and refine projects in response to feedback.
