Unit Description

Promoting health and wellbeing is a fundamental competency of the public health practitioner, but how do we know which health promotion interventions work, are cost-effective and equitable? With a focus on the social factors that underlie health behaviours, this unit equips students with the skills to appraise the evidence base in order to plan and implement effective health promotion programs.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Understand and analyse key health promotion principles and processes.
2.	Critically appraise health promotion literature and programs.
3.	Apply cultural competence and collaboration skills to health promotion practice.
4.	Examine strategies to create environments that support health-promoting choices.
5.	Examine and compare relevant health promotion approaches to address the health needs of Indigenous people.
6.	Develop a health promotion program for specific populations/communities.
