Unit Description

In this unit, students will explore the principles of professional practice that impact and govern the profession, including ethical and medico-legal requirements for speech pathology and evidence-based practice (EBP) principles. This unit will also develop students foundational skills in observation, recording, interviewing, interaction and communication for clinical practice. Students will learn about the importance of reflection and lifelong learning and will evaluate their own developing clinical skills. This unit includes a mandatory 5-day residential school.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Evaluate the ethical, legal and political issues that impact the speech pathology profession.
2.	Review the principles of evidence based practice (EBP) and the role of research in clinical practice.
3.	Apply clinical skills in observation, recording, interviewing, interaction and communication.
4.	Evaluate own and peersÂ¿ developing skills in speech and language pathology practice.
