This course presents core strategies and builds knowledge on preparing and responding to a natural disaster. Natural disasters are increasing due to complex environmental and geopolitical conditions and may impact on the health of the population in complex ways. In this short course the student will learn about distinct types of natural disasters and their impact on the health of people.
The course will explore the injury or illness patterns which result from specific types of emergencies and how that influences health preparedness and response. Finally, the principles of a coordinated health response including the role of emergency medical teams and other agencies will be examined.
This short course is suitable for health professionals working in acute, primary or public health area in government and non-government organisations.
