Unit Description

In this unit, preservice teachers undertake 20 days of professional experience in a preschool under the guidance of a mentor teacher. Preservice teachers will critically reflect on and enact ethical standards and codes of conduct, apply and evaluate teaching, learning and assessment approaches, and examine policy and legal requirements that inform practices in a preschool setting. Preservice teachers will be introduced to the principles and practices of planning for learning in a preschool setting using the Early Years Learning Framework planning cycle and will apply this knowledge to evaluate and develop learning experiences.

In-school experience

As placement settings are mostly Australian based, students enrolled in this unit must provide a current police check/working with children card to the educational setting and CDU Professional Experience Office prior to the commencement of the professional experience.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Demonstrate the capacity to design, plan and implement effective and age-appropriate learning experiences and teaching activities that align to the Early Years Learning Framework planning cycle.
2.	Apply a range of strategies to construct positive learning environments.
3.	Apply feedback from mentor teacher to improve teaching practice and student learning.
4.	Assess and analyse student learning based on theoretical and developmental knowledge to inform future planning.
5.	Engage in professional learning opportunities and reflect on constructive feedback to improve planning, teaching and ongoing professional learning.
6.	Display professional and ethical conduct when working with mentors, colleagues, parents, and students.
