Unit Description

In this unit, students will be required to undertake comprehensive database searches to locate relevant original studies for systemic analysis, screen and identify the final eligible studies, and critically appraise the final included studies. Upon completion of this unit, students will be required to develop two comprehensive research reports to detail the literature search, screening and extraction process, and the critical appraisal of the included studies, respectively. This unit is the second in a sequence of three systematic review project units in which students undertaking the Bachelor of Nursing Honours or Bachelor of Midwifery Honours must enrol to complete their Honours research project. The Honours research project consists of 60 credit points, with each of the three units accounting for 20 credit points. In this unit, students will continue to work with their allocated academic supervisor to implement the systematic review project following the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Method for Systematic Review Research.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Apply comprehensive database searches using predefined search strategies to accurately locate potentially eligible original studies for inclusion.
2.	Screen and select eligible studies for inclusion in a systematic review project.
3.	Apply data extraction methods using a pre-piloted data extraction form tailored for a systematic review topic.
4.	Perform methodological quality assessment of the included studies using an appropriate quality appraisal tool.
5.	Develop research reports incorporating the results of the literature search, screening and extraction, and the critical appraisal of the included studies.
6.	Present existing research findings of the systematic review project in a seminar context.
7.	Work collaboratively with the allocated academic supervisor to reach the research project milestones.
